Wind Turbine

Ian and Tracy Stuart, poultry and dairy farmers

The proposal is planned to provide electricity for the dairy enterprise, expanding large scale poultry enterprise and two dwellings on site. Excess power will be converted into heat for the under-floor heating systems in the poultry units. If exceptionally high output is produced, then during the summer when heating is required to a lesser extent, excess power will be exported to the local grid system. A wind turbine of this size is exceptional for agricultural use in the U.K.  The project from instruction to approval took a year of patient negotiations, additional key reports (most of which were prepared in house) and a great deal of persistent hard work to achieve the approval.

Approved 23rd December 2011.

Thanks also to Bowland Ecology for their comprehensive ecology survey and support of the appropriate site selection on the farm.

We have massive electric bills for the business and something serious had to be done about it. David got us an exceptional permission for a wind turbine big enough to be useful even at low wind speeds
